This is all that remains of our Company training
area in Logan Heights, Ft. Bliss, TX. Every single building has been removed except one. I still recognize
the dry creek bed near the top of the picture where we put the white-washed rocks from the walkways and flagpole.
The dark rectangle asphalt areas are where we did calisthenics and lots of
marching. We often did double-time (the Army version of running) on the
narrow streets while in platoon formation. One dark morning, our platoon
collided with another platoon at a blind intersection. The resulting
dog-pile caused quite a few bruises and abrasions, especially for those
who ended up on the bottom of the pile. Both drill sergeants accused the
other of not looking where they were going.
The latest satellite image shows a new housing development has sprung up
that covers most of the old company training area. |
