In 1991 my department here at Cal Poly decided to send me to Apple
Computer to become a certified Macintosh technician (actually, I don't
think anyone else wanted the job). After I finished my initial training
with Apple I was given a nifty little Mac SE computer with a magical
Ethernet connection. A whole new world opened up as I learned how to
cruise the internet. Initially, I was mystified at all of the odd files
I found on various servers around the world. When I traded my SE for a
Mac IIx (twice the speed and in living color!), things really started
cooking. I managed to get a simple HTTP server running and then figured
out how to write a little HTML. But now I had a problem just what
should I put on my web site? At first, I mostly amused myself by loading
up a few images and a few lines of text. I was excited that it actually
worked, but now what?
Around this same time period I had become interested in online
forums that focused on the war in Vietnam. Listening and participating
in the chatter was a catharsis of sorts and I could see I wasn't alone
in these feelings. After all of these years, many veterans are still in
the process of coming to terms with Vietnam. Surprisingly, I could also
see that the non-veteran community was beginning to understand Vietnam
veterans like never before. I guess one could characterize this as a
"coming home" of sorts and this is what encouraged me to create this
web site. I hope you find it informative.

The power of the pen is mightier than the sword,
and much easier to write with.
