I was in 7/11 from June 69 through June 70. The first half of that time I was one of the duty officer's in the Battalion's operation center. The second half, I commanded C Btry, the one that occasionally occupied and moved by barge. During the first half I remember occasionally coordinating the search sector(s) for the three anti-personnel radars that were attached to 7/11FA at that time. Yours must have been one of them. Leonard Vose.

I was also in Babenhausen in late 1969, was assigned to 175mm guns then transferred to B battery of the 1st TAB (Target Aquisition Battalion) of the 26th Artillery, V Corps. ( However, I was in the Flash section) Who knows maybe I was your replacement. I believe a SFC Bumgartner or something like that was in charge of Flash then, he left to run a Gym on the main kansern in Darmstadt. B Battery left Babenhausen in the early 1970's for Darmstadt which is down the road, to a smaller Kansern. I visited Germany once in the mid 1970's and B battery returned to Babenhausen. I read somewhere that this unit was disbanded in 1978. Anyway the old places look totally different today. As with all people of that era, lost a few people that I trained with.

Great reports. I was with C 3/13 Arty in 1970. It is amazing that you can remember so much. It seems, after 37 years, I have lost alot. I can certainly relate to your comment about sounds or smells bringing back memories. Thanks

An amazing site--this looks exactly like my tour--equipment, job and all! I arrived in country in late March 1969 and was assigned to the Big Red One. My MOS was a 13A10 so I ended up on a 106 briefly with the 2/33 Arty but was quickly reassinged to HHB Division Arty which had control of ground surveillance radar units in the division. I was reassigned with a couple other guys from Sill with the same background to a AN/TPS25 unit on the Saigon River--Cat Lai(IIRC) and spent 4 months there. This was at the time the VC were lobbing rockets into Saigon and we were looking east of the city to keep them from doing that. In August, they Chinooked us out to a FSB east of Lai Khe, (Normandy III)and spent another 5 months there. In January they announced the Division was going home, but we were sent into your AO, briefly, to a FSB west of Cu Chi near the angels wing and then to an ARVN base near Cu Chi in Phu Hoa district--what a dump. Finally, went the division pulled out in March--after I had extended to get an early out--we were reassigned to the 11th Cav. and spent the rest of the tour in Di An until I rotated and was discharged in May 1970. Again, thanks for creating a terrific site; I've tried to explain what I did over there to people but I think your site covers the topic better than I coudl. Thanks again.

Hello Dave, And welcome home! Found your website/scrapbook while surfing III Corps, Vietnam 1969. I served w/ First Cavalry from Nov 68 until Dec 69. What a year! I was a Chaplain's Assistant w/ 8th Engineers for 2 months, then on LZ Dolly with 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry and finally spent last 4 months w/ DivArty in Phuoc Vinh. Seeing your pictures and reading your narrative has been very helpful. I have been researching the only classmate and teammate from my High School who was KIA. He was w/ Big Red One in the Michelin when it happened on 30 MAR 69 in Operation Atlas Wedge. Thank you for your service, your photos and your narrative.

Thanks, Dave, for a pleasant trip into the past. I stumbled in looking at a picture of a C-141 and ended up reading for an hour. You have a good writing style. Cheers, Ed

Thanks Dave for a lot of memories. I was also drafted and sent to Fort Bliss in March of 1968. We were the 2nd group that went through basic training. Spent the next 7 months at Ft. Eustis in Virginia and then off to the Nam. Was stationed in Cam Ranh Bay and Nha Trang. Your pics are great and most of all - Welcome Home Brother!

I was in a-troop 3rd squadron 4th cavalry 25th ID base camp was in cu chi, from june 1966 until june 1967. I can never forget clarence ray husk a friend who was k.i.a. May 12 1967. Charlie came out of a hole in the ground near where we were sitting with our guard down, he killed husk with an AK47. He then dived back in his hole and we saw him again. Our tunnel rats could not find him. 41 years later I sill have this dream about charlie coming out that hole, and its like in the terminator I cant kill charlie, he just wont die, he keeps coming back alive no matter how much I kill him.
